The Luke Duke Sighting

I sincerely apologize for the lack of posting the last two weeks. I will explain, but it has been a very hectic time for me.

Two weeks ago, I was planning on going home to see Joseph and the Amazing Techno Colored Dreamcoat with my Mom. I got an unfortunate call the Friday before I was supposed to go home for the show. My Mom had been feeling sick for a few weeks, and she was trying to figure out why. After trying many other tests, she had a CAT Scan, and they found a good number of lumps that shouldn't be there. Long story short, she has cancer, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Her doctors are very optimistic and so am I. They think she will only need 6-8 Chemo sessions (She has already has her first) and then she should be cured and in remission. Needless to say, I was in no mood to post, and a short trip turned in a week long stay. But during that time I did find 2 dimes, 2 nickels and 14 pennies.

Onto better stories.

I obviously was not able to see Joseph, but my Brother In-Law (Joe) and Sister In-Law (Angie)came into town this last weekend to see the musical Chicago with Marti and myself. During intermission, I found 1 quarter and 1 penny near the drink stand.

While the ladies were getting some drinks, I went with Joe to the gift stand, because Angie wanted a shot glass. At the stand, was the actor playing Mike Flynn (The part that Richard Gere played in the movie). He was signing autographs, taking pictures and pimping his own CD. At the time we thought about doing a picture or autograph on our tickets, but passed on it, since it was just some random musical guy. Now....normally during an intermission, they dim the lights a few times when it is time to get back to your seat. But we weren't paying much attention, since Flynn was in the lobby. We figured that so long as he was out in the lobby, the show wasn't going to start.

You see where this is going. The lights never dimmed, and the lobby suddenly got VERY empty. As we walked past Mr. Flynn into the theater, we saw that the show HAD started it's second act! We were surprised, but not as much as Mr. Flynn. About 2 minutes behind us, he burst through the back doors, into the back of the theater, and said, "Shit! They fucking started without me!" and then ran down the side aisle toward the stage. It was only loud enough that those within 5-10 feet could hear it. Thankfully we were in the radius.

BUT the story doesn't end there. On the drive back from the show, Angie mentioned that in the playbill, the actor playing Flynn had the Dukes of Hazzard listed as one of his credits. We talked about how pissed we would be if it turned out to be one of the Duke boys, and we passed up the opportunity to get our picture taken with him.

You see where this is going again. The actor playing Flynn was Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard. So while I don't have a picture with him (And I am very annoyed that I missed the opportunity), I do have a story where I got to hear him swear.

Finally, I have a change question for you. Angie and Joe stayed with us this weekend. After they left, I found 2 pennies in Marti's study, right where they had their suitcase and stuff. We cleaned the place before they got there, so I know that the change came from one of their pockets. On the surface it seems that this is found change. But I don't feel right about counting it for some reason. So I leave it to you, the committee to decide.

Total since last post - $0.70
Total for the Race - $221.48

Bailey... sorry to hear about your mom. Our thoughts at Change Is Good are with you.

I would tell your friends that you found two pennies they left behind and if they want them back. If not, you can count the pennies as found. My rule of thumb is if you have a reasonable chance of locating the owner of found change, then you should try to return it.

Neat Luke Duke story. He was my favorite and the one whose part I played when I was a kid.

Sorry to hear about your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I definitely enjoyed the Luke Duke story and wish I had witnessed that event. As for the change question - I feel that change in order to be lost can not have a clearly identifiable owner. It seems as if you know that the change came from your friends. I might feel differently if there was a big party in your house and the guest room was used for coats and the same scenario as before (you cleaned it before everyone came) and after everyone left you found change. It wouldn't be clearly identifiable in that case so therefore it would be lost change. As it is, I feel you know the owners of the change therefore, I feel that it can not count towards the race.

Bailey, the gang at "One At Coin At a Time" send our thoughts and prayers out to you and your mom. Hopefully, this won't slow her down for long.

About the change, I say count it, it was left behind and therefore abandoned as I'm concerned.

Best,

Jim, Michele and Lexi

Thanks for all the nice comments and well wishes.

Now onto business......those 2 pennies.

Brian - I agree that if you can locate the owner of the change you should. BUT...in this case, I am not going to call my brother in-law and tell him that he dropped 2 pennies on my ground, and if he wants them. Just seems a little to weird. I'd rather let it go, then to try to explain why I am calling him about 2 pennies.

NHCH - I would like to agree with you, but after talking with Chris about this, and reading becca's post I have to agree with them.

Chris and I talked and decided that change that you are positive was left by family/friends really shouldn't be counted. If Marti had dropped some quarters in the couch, I would not count them. Plus since they were in my house, that also seems to just make it feel like it shouldn't count.

NHCH, thanks for pulling for me, but I am going to have to let those 2 pennies go. Not really, I will still keep them, but just not count them toward the race.

You don't hear this often, but I have a great wrapping paper story (with pictures) for my next post in a few days. Stay tuned!

Best to your mom....

I met Wopat many years back...He was in Oklahoma at a small theatre...The man can sing! I envy that he did Annie Get Your Gun with Bernadette Peters on Broadway....sigh....

You are a nice find....I will be back...

Bailey... it's not weird! Well, a little, but ... Back when Noah was first born, Liza's father stayed on our couch one night to help out and dropped some coins (I can't find the post right now). When I discovered them the next day, I asked if he wanted them back. He said no and I kept them.
